Dynamics are a vital element of playing with feel. I like to think of dynamics in music as existing in a room with a floor and a ceiling. The style of music will dictate the size of that room, but you should have a distinct command between the soft whisper of the notes on the floor and the screaming aggression of the notes on the ceiling, along with everything in between. Dynamics are most useful when improvising, as they allow you to be extremely conversational with your music. Think of dynamics like your speaking voice – certain things you say have a different inflection than others. Your guitar should be able to express melodies the same way.
