I've always been a huge fan of the octave fuzz sound. From Jimi Hendrix to Eric Johnson to Joe Satriani, I've heard many applications of this awesome effect in music. The reason I like the MXR La Machine over other similar pedals is a combination of things. The pedal has a much more modern sound than vintage-style sound in that it feels a bit more clean in the middle settings. Of course, if you want that grinding, Hendrix-y noise, you can achieve it by cranking the tone knob, but the overall versatility of this pedal really won me over. You can choose to disengage the octave effect and use the La Machine as a normal fuzz pedal, which is like having two pedals in one. All these things along with the tiny footprint this pedal takes on your board make me a huge advocate for the MXR La Machine. If you're interested, get an MXR La Machine here.
