Open strings can sometimes be accidents, but just like that accidental pinch harmonic you tastefully passed off as something you meant to do, so too can open strings add awesomeness to your guitar riffs and licks that you didn't expect.
There are many applications for open strings, and I'll show you a few ways that I like to implement them in my own playing, and suggestions for you to try if you've never experimented with open strings before. The key word here is experiment; not everything sounds good with open strings. Sometimes, however, it can sound so wrong, it's right. You'll see what I mean.
